I'm curious to try gamepads with Max/MSP 8.6.0, seems to be fun. I'm not a gamer at all so I literally don't know anything about these controllers. Are they those used for the PS4 ? Does the [gamepad] object only work via USB connection, or is it ok with Bluetooth ? Any recommendation ? Thanks !

Very briefly, on MacOS using newer OS/Hardware: XBox only works via bluetooth, and PS controllers give more functionality with a wired usb cable. 

On Windows, XBox controller have better overall support than PS controllers, but both should work both wirelessly and wired.

Modern XBox controllers have greater resolution for joysticks and triggers, and PS controllers have additional features for touch, gyro and accelerometer. 

XBox X|S and PS5 Dualsense controllers are each relatively affordable, and both great controllers. Each with their own advantages highlighted above. Maybe you know someone with each of them you could borrow for a week and decide which is best for your needs (or buy one of each and return whichever one you like least or keep both for different use cases). 

Additional note: annoyingly for XBox X|S controllers you need to buy the rechargeable battery separate.

C'est le nouvel objet [gamepad] qui a réveillé mon intérêt pour les contrôleurs du type PS4/XBox. Je m'en suis acheté un, tout va bien, c'est sous contrôle, merci ! 

I'm currently trying to use the PS4 controller. It's really cool, but so far, I've only managed to use it with the USB cable. The controller is recognized via Bluetooth, but no data seems to be coming out of the gamepad object. Can anyone tell me if the PS4 controller works with Bluetooth, or should I buy an Xbox controller instead ?

I'm also having no luck with the ps4 controller on mac. Wired works just fine but bluetooth seems to not work. The the max update site has a picture of a ps5 controller without a wire controlling a mac so i'm wondering if that is possible:

I would like to know if the ps4 controller works wirelessly on mac with some tweaks and/or somebody to confirm ps5 controller wireless functionality on mac.

Try Amazon Luna, has an awesome compatibility with almost everything. I'm connecting flawlessly by bluetooth with an old MAC BOOK PRO retina half 2015 and I'm using it with MAX 8.6 to control SPAT sources live

is someone can recommend me a wired controller that works with osx 15.3 / apple silicon ?

i searched Xbox or PS4 wired, but difficult to find the original controller, not a copy, (wired), i'm confuse to buy the good one ... 

that would be amazing ! i tried different controller (8bit, Rematch, ..) without success
