Hi all! I am running a video installation with pressure sensors from an Arduino triggering specific video clips. When they are not being triggered, I have a blank video clip that plays instead. However, sometimes the videos get stuck. They will trigger on but not turn off until I click the read message for the black video. Vice versa, the opposite will happen where the videos trigger initially, but then after a while, the videos stop triggering. This is resolved when I click the video files read messages. I have tried routing the bangs to the read messages and then to the jit.movie, but this causes Max to crash eventually. I'm a newbie to Max/MSP/Jitter and would appreciate any feedback about how to fix this issue or how to streamline/edit my patch in a more efficient way. Thanks in advance for your help!

I've been dabbling with other people's m4l devices for a couple of years, but so far haven't tried making my own. I've been building stuff in Drambo on iOS and would like to make the jump to m4l. As a first tiny project, I'd like to build a device that can send a signal to a mappable control when receiving a note on. I'd like to have a button like eg the live LFO for the mapping. I figured out, that I can get the note on from the midiparse object, but am lost about what to do next. Would love some beginner friendly advice. Thanks in advance.

Hey all, I have here a max patch that converts audio to MIDI. The Gain object is acting like a threshold and when audio is played, it will distinguish the next step in my simple sequencer. 

I would like to quantise the MIDI that is produced but am having trouble identifying where in the chain I can insert my metronome I have also created with different beat divitions.

So I use the latest Ableton Live Suite (12.1.5), and if I choose the bundled version under "Max Application", the devices that doesn't require Max 9 are working perfectly (the bundled version is Max 8), but if I choose the folder path of Max 9, only the plugins that require Max 9 are working. For example, the device called "Bouncy Notes" from the "Inspired By Nature" pack doesn't work after I switch to Max 9, even if I reinstall the whole pack. Is there something I could do, or do I need to wait until the bundled version of Live is updated to Max 9?

Hi all, is there some kind of Outliner in MaxMSP / Max4Live ? Especially when working with UI and having many elements / controls which lay partly on top of each other it is very hard to select the desired element to manipulate it. i am looking for a kind of Outliner like in Figma, Photoshop, Blender, etc. Does Max has something similar ?

Proposal for Revamping Jitter Specifications in Max/MSP

I strongly encourage Cycling '74 to consider a comprehensive overhaul of Jitter's current specifications and functionality by integrating key aspects of Unreal Engine's tech stack into the Max/MSP environment. This would not involve importing the entire Unreal Engine source code or its rendering pipeline but rather selectively integrating its optimized systems that align with the goals of Jitter.

The integration would focus on Unreal Engine's high-performance rendering capabilities and related tools while ensuring that the version incorporated is at least 5 to 8 years old. This is crucial to match the average hardware capabilities of Max/MSP users, ensuring compatibility with a broad spectrum of GPUs and CPUs that are more commonly in use.

However, this integration should not aim to replace Jitter or significantly add to its object count. The goal would be to modernize and optimize the existing Jitter functionalities that are now outdated and underperforming. By selectively updating the core aspects of Jitter’s rendering system, this would breathe new life into the toolset without introducing unnecessary bloat or complexity.

The key objectives of this revamp should be:

Hey Max Community! I'm a longtime max user but new to max 9 and jit.fx. 

.average and see that it's able to average two input textures, and when I double click the object I'm able to see the underlying code. I'm curious if it's possible to modify a jit.fx object like this one to take in, say, three different textures across three inlets and produce the same sort of averaged output? 

This operation is straightforward enough with 

.pix but I'm keen to step into the world of jit.fx.

Experimenting with the accelerometer, wanting to map x, y, and z to param changes. 

I'd like to map the three parameters to the accelerometer axes, but I'm a JS novice. I have the following accelerometer code in the setup() function

I rarely use the tutorials in my own works, but use them a lot to help beginner Max users understand new concepts.

In Max 9 the Tutorials have been moved online. This is a problem if you work offline. But what is worse is that the tutorial patches have been moved. Inside the tutorials you must select "Download Series Assets", and then unzip "Max Tutorials.zip". Inside the tutorials, it says which patch to use. For instance in "Tutorial 1: Hello", it says "This tutorial references the patcher 01mHello.maxpat". You then go to the folder that you downloaded, search for "01mHello.maxpat", and open that patch.

In Max 8 you just press "Open Tutorial" inside Max, and the patch opens.
