To brush up a bit my C++ knowledge and out of curiosity I started to dip my toes into the Min-Devkit.

As a starting project I chose to work on a new implementation of an object to connect to the ENTTEC DMX USB Pro, because it has a simple serial API and offers some interesting possibilities like multithreading, concurrency etc. One object I am working on is called [jam.dmxusbpro].

As part of the project I want to allow only one instance of  [jam.dmxusbpro] to be able to open a serial port to an  ENTTEC DMX USB Pro. 

The way implemented this is by creating a separate device manager class - a singleton - that tracks which devices are opened by which instance of  [jam.dmxusbpro] . That works fine between objects off the same class.

As a second step I am creating another object, called  [jam.dmxusbpro~] that allows to control DMX channels with MSP signals.

However, my approach of using a singleton device manager class only works within instances of the same Max object not between  [jam.dmxusbpro] and   [jam.dmxusbpro~].

Is there a way to share data between different Max objects using the Min-DevKit?

PS: I am working on MacOS and am using the POSIX termios API to open the serial ports.

PPS: Min-DevKit is a great addition!! It got me started very fast and is easily accessible for me who's working more in other languages and has a quite basic experience with C and C++.

Hi! I'm working with MIDI in Max and I have a situation where the same note (e.g. MIDI note 60) is played twice in quick succession — meaning two note-on events are triggered before any note-off.

I'm splitting note-on and note-off handling into separate parts of my patch, but I want to make sure that 

note-off is only sent after all note-ons have been released

Basically, I want to keep track of how many times a note has been triggered, and only send the note-off when the count for that note reaches zero.

I have 3 microphones set up on a source. I need a patch that plays the live microphones for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes live audio, they mute for 5 minutes.

Whilst the microphones are live, Max records the live audio, then reverses it. For 5 minutes the reversed audio is heard and the live audio is muted.

After 10 minutes when both forward and backward versions are heard, the system clears and starts again, going live for 5 minutes, then reverse. The process repeats ad-infinitum until told to stop.

My initial idea was two parallel processes. The first a simple timed On/Off on a 5 minute loop, the second being the buffered/reversed signal, with then some toggle between the two processes.

This is my first real project on Max and I only have v7 (I bought Max many years ago thinking it might be useful for installations etc. but I've always got by with Ableton for jobs since!)

I've attached what I have so far but I'm rather stuck and overwhelmed at the amount of information I'm trying to take in. Any help greatly appreciated!

I am playing around with feedback modulation synthesis and I am getting "MSP object inputs not satisfied, likely due to infinite recursion" despite I am passing the signal through gen~ and history operator.

A workaround is to use send~ and receive~ pair to delay the signal further, but I am wondering why I can't just simply do that with history?

Max throws an error (-43) when attempting to open folders or files with non-ASCII-characters in the filename. For a big database which has to support foldernames containing any kind of character I am in need for a method that supports this. Has anyone got a good idea on how to bypass this limitation? If someone is inclined to sugest node.script I would be happy if they shared the according code since I am not familiar with its syntax. JS would be fine but I believe it would only work via the native

In MaxForLive, I can easily get the frame count from a movie by inserting 'read, getframecount' and routing it from the jit.movie dumpout. (see patch attached)

But now I have a jit.playlist and I can't find how to have that frame count update when I switch between movies. I tried to get the frame count from the jit.pwindow dumpout or from the jit.playlist content, nothing works. What am I missing?
