just put a jit.matrix object right before the jit.gen inlet and call the messages on that. you could come up with some complicate logic using gen parameters, but it depends on your situation which is more viable

I have been trying this for a while now and am not getting anywhere... hope someone here with fresh eyes can help me out!!

I have a grid of spheres and I would like to be able to drop random ones. So far so good. I use jit.phys.multiple and jit.gl.multiple. I set the mass of all objects to 0, @filters none (I don't want the spheres to interact with each other), then randomly set the mass back to 1...

What I would like to happen next is that once a sphere has left the FOV that it is removed from the physics engine. I was trying to set the mass back to 0 but couldn't make it work. Also, each time I make another sphere fall, all previously fallen spheres reset and fall again... How do I tell jit.phys.multiple to ignore certain spheres and keep them at their current position off screen? Is there a good way of achieving this?

I am working with video and audio, together.

And wanting to use some kind of analyses to extract info about a video (playing as a texture), and use this to control aspects of sound.  

There are so many rich tools for doing this in the other direction. When working with sound, there is feature detection of every conceivable precision and contour, and so highly optimized.

I am wondering what approaches people take when they want the Video to influence the Audio.

Which features do you extract? And, how do you go about doing this?

I am specifically wondering about doing this with textures, in a 'realtime' performance patch.

Are there GPU side solutions to get brightness, or color values, or do 'frame differencing', or some kind of 'activity level' in a video playing as a texture?

.asyncread -> jit.3m, kind of 'jitter approach'.... as I see used in the Vizzie ANALYZR / vz.analyzr module.

But, is that the best or only way?   If you have a fairly big patch running multiple streams of video and audio and processing each with multiple effects, and streams of control data, etc., etc, etc.. I just assume it's not best practice to be reading all frames back to CPU. (My understanding of all this is vague and rudimentary, so please forgive me.)

Any suggestions, or examples, or pointers to packages or tools I may have missed, are very much appreciated.

I greatly appreciate Maxers' advice and help in building patches. This is one of the reasons why Max/MSP is my first choice when it comes to designing an interface for my needs.

I would like to design a patch for playing 10-channel HD videos in sync. Additionally, I would appreciate your suggestions on the hardware requirements for this setup.

I am creating this patch for someone who prefers to control and manage it remotely, without requiring extensive knowledge of digital equipment. Therefore, an ideal solution for my needs would be a Max patch with a graphical user interface (GUI) that automatically loads on computer startup and plays videos synchronously. Each of the 10 HD video files will be projected using a separate projector.

I am considering using one computer to handle all 10 video channels. My question is whether this would be too demanding for a recent version of a Mac computer (e.g., Mac Studio), or if it would be better to use two wired Mac computers, with each handling 5 video channels.

What is the most efficient way to build a patch like this, and what are the hardware requirements for a 10-channel video extender, splitter, and distributor?
