I'm trying to setup a simple patch to prevent feedback on the neighboring track in live situations.

Let's say I have some kind of buffer recorder that never let's audio through on a track. I'd like to prevent feedback in case I accidentally deactivate the device.

My idea is to have a small M4L patch on the previous track that monitors the active state of my recorder and mutes the track in case the recorder is deactivated.

It's my first time using the M4L API features. My FB_blocker patch receives the active state of the recorder and transmits it where it should but the recorder mute status doesn't change. If I change it manually using a integer box it works fine... 

Could somebody have little look at my patcher to see if I'm missing something ?

live.remote~ is not accurately outputting its inputs. The larger the number, the worse the difference.

The below patch clearly demonstrates this.

It really appears to be an issue with live.remote~ and not any of the other objects. You can see the signal is being printed accurately right before it hits live.remote~.

I spent a lot of time ruling out every possible setting. 

It would be nice to get a confirmation before I raise a ticket. 

A lot of people do not use such big numbers, but they matter a lot when doing bit packing.

I have a device with some custom user interface stuff done with jsui.  I'd of course like the device to work for other users on other machines.  My first choice was to freeze the patch to ensure these external js files were included, but I'm also using a preset system with pattrstorage and it seems that when the device is frozen, I can't save new presets.

What's the best practice for storing jsui files alongside a device? Or is there another workaround when my patch is frozen where I can still allow presets to be saved?

Okay, I generally like to put some thought and practice into my problems before I some here to ask about them, but I'm totally clueless. What I want to do is make a monophonic synth that glides from one note to the next if a note-on is sent before a note-off. Portamento glide, I think, is what it's called. I'm watching a tutorial about it on YouTube, but it makes no sense to me. Could someone explain? I understand the problem of the MIDI language not being able to send messages at the same time, so I see why he's delaying things. I just feel like there's a lot of gibberish here that's really not needed, such as using so many [t] objects and sending a bunch of lists.

I'd use ddg.mono with legatomode set to legato.  

I'm not sure all of the other things that he's trying to do with his patch, (he may be preventing reattack on notes with the same pitch or something like that?) but this should do what you're asking.  


gerenal strategy is to do the conversion to frequency on the signal, layer using [line~] before [mtof~]
this means that in case of a poly patcher the mtof~ should be inside.


Here's one more question; I want to use this sort of thing in an additive synth using [oscbank~]. The problem is that the outlet of [mtof~] is, obviously, a signal and not a number, so I can't use it with the [vexpr] object to multiply the frequency - or anything before the frequency, because of the [line~] object - by a vector. I've tried using [snapshot~] to change it back to a number, but I just end up with a downsampled sound that's really rather obnoxious.

Also, how can I keep the note from retriggering the [adsr~] object when a new note-on comes before a note-off? I feel like this is a lot easier than I'm letting on, but I haven't slept all night, so my brain isn't functioning well.

EDIT: Never mind the [adsr~] question. All I had to do was open the Help file and I found it.


depending on the frequencies you want to reach you might be able to do the multiplications required for oscbank~ on the linear layer, for example + 12 instead of *~ 2.

but of course, if signal is not rerquired anyway, my statement above regarding mtof~ was unneccesary. but .. i would recommend you to build a more general portamento patch, which will also work with sound generators which take signals for the frequency. ;)


If you're using oscbank~, you can do it via a "striped" system.  Load the coefficients into a buffer~ via peek~, then use count~ 0 16 and poke~ to read them out and multiply by your fundamental.

How many oscillators are you using?  If it's not an obscene number, you could just wrap each on inside a poly~. Like this:

I'm trying to midi map or key map a live.tab object in Live, but it's the same in max. The live.tab object has 3 tabs and I'm expecting that I can assign each tab to a different midi or key command. The only way it works is to have one single midi or key command that cycle between tabs. 

Let's say I have the default live.tab that comes with 3 tabs labeled "one" "two" "three". Let's say I would like to assign the numeric keys "1", "2" and "3" to the tabs in order to directly control the switching. I can' find any possible way; I can assign only one command.

I can't figure out how to have 3 different midi or key command to select directly each one of the tabs of live.tab.

I have noticed a bug with max for live that i hope would be easy to fix.

I am making a m4l device that requires adding live.remote~ objects dynamically, they simply don't work when doing so: when sending the appropriate id to the object the parameter doesn't get mapped.

I made a m4l patch that demonstrates that:

First map a paramater in live (a knob or anything) as described in the device, you will notice that it gets mapped just fine;

Then open the patch, delete the live.remote~ object, save the device, and close the max editor;

Now press the right button in the device to dynamically add a live.remote~ object and connect it in the exact same way it was before you deleted it;
