In MaxForLive, I can easily get the frame count from a movie by inserting 'read, getframecount' and routing it from the jit.movie dumpout. (see patch attached)

But now I have a jit.playlist and I can't find how to have that frame count update when I switch between movies. I tried to get the frame count from the jit.pwindow dumpout or from the jit.playlist content, nothing works. What am I missing?

Alright, this is an odd one and probably involves something simple I'm missing, but...

I've been working on some devices, and I've noticed that certain dials (With ☒ Initial Enable and a preset value defined) don't seem to send their value until I adjust them. Is there something I'm missing?

I have a similar issue with a umenu that selects an audio source, but until I click it, there's no audio.

and use decimal, not hex.
You don't want to convert note number to hex and back to decimal to be able to send that out, right ?
or use sprintf and iter to convert hex to decimal on the fly,
if you want to keep all hex.

Simply output the contents of the messagebox...

I could program myself a hex-dec converter in max for live, like above, and then manually enter it into the messagebox ;-)



you can also use [textedit] to enter the hex values (once you get it going, because it is a bit strange by default)


Use the sxformat object, in your case this is an example:

[sxformat 0xF0 0x43 0x10 0x12 0x11 0x00 0xF7] which is [sxformat 240 67 16 18 17 0 247]

You can select any part of the SysEx message to be dynamic and accept it via the 1st, 2nd, 3rd ... nth inlet, like this:

[sxformat 240 67 / is $i1 / is $i2 / is $i3 / 0 247]

for example, so that you could swap 16, 17, and 18 to different numbers and execute the sysex command, just be sure to connect a bang to the left inlet from the second, third, ...nth inlet, because those are BLUE, cold inlets and they don't bang the sxformat object on their own.
Check [sxformat] help to see a dial changing a parameter in an example SysEx command.

Thats what I was looking for.
I discovered it a couple of days before.
Works fine.
I am using it for switching the registrations on a GENOS keyboard with ableton live.


The only reason I see to use sxformat instead of a simple message is if one needs checksum.
otherwise, this is much simpler


and you know that one can reorder list members in a message ?


Yes, in my case this was the way to go; once i wrote a SysEx editor for the volca fm and that needed checksum to be calculated as per the current parameters, but when I do a full dump, it’s just a very long message directly going to [midiout]

I would be grateful for anyone’s help or suggestions on how to understand this.

I want to call functions of the looper device (Record, overdub and play). I know this is possible as I tested it out using the LOM.navigator device.

 I can’t find any tutorials or info online at all about how to address parameters on devices apart from the mixer device and I’m trying  to get advice about where to look or the correct commands to use. 

I have attached a couple of screen grabs of my attempt to do this - To see if I ma on the right lines- to no joy.

I have a Max For Live patch that includes multiple instances of a subpatch (.maxpat).

The subpatch has an inlet connected to a live.numbox with parameter visiblity of "stored only".

My problem is that whenever I reload the Live session the subpatch live.numbox values are reset to 0 or seem to have random values.

What am I not understanding here?  Thanks!

I'm just starting out with M4L, so please excuse if this is a silly problem. 

I want to control playback in Ableton via a M4L device and have this in turn be controlled with my Midi controller. So, to give an example, I press a C1 on the controller which I mapped to a "play" button on the M4L device which in turn tells Ableton to, in this example, "start playback". 

Now, the problem I keep running into is this:

When I press the Midi controller, it does trigger the M4L button - but only every other time. Or, to be more precise, it doesn't "untrigger" it when I release the controller so that it is immediately ready to fire again. However, when I press the same M4L button not via the Midi controller but directly with my mouse, the M4L device triggers every time without fail. 

I reckon there should be a way to remedy this? please help :)
