In this configuration I'm having problems with the locked_bgcolor attribute when set to a Dynamic color name ("Device Background").

Trouble is, it's only happening in .amxd that I froze/exported a while back, and which have worked correctly for more than a year.  

I've tried to reproduce the issue from scratch by mixing and matching devices exported from Max as old as 8.3.3, but I can't seem to cause the problem.

Pictures of the issue below.  Is anyone else able to reproduce something like this?

Today I tried the new Track.create_midi_clip function which is available as of 12.1.10. I noticed that after calling the function, the clip is created correctly, but the return ID (returned by live.object) is 0 instead of the ID of the clip that was created. I double checked with other similar functions like song.create_scene, clip_slot.create_clip etc. On these functions live.object returns the ID of the newly created item. See attached patch.

So Track.create_midi_clip doesn't. That sounds like a bug right? 

Is there an alternative way to find out which clip I just created?

I have a really odd issue that I have been trying to debug for a week now and I am getting nowhere with it - so maybe someone here has some ideas that might help.

I have an existing M4L plugin that is released and working fine in Live 10, 11 and 12.

I've made some updates to it and Livee now it crashes when a project containing the plugin is loaded into Live 10.1.43 - it does not crash Live 11 or 12.

I've created two new Live 10 projects that only contain the original plugin. One I save with the default plugin settings. The other I save with a change to one live.numbox item.

If I then switch the plugin file to the new version, restart Live 10, and load the project with the default plugin settings it works fine. But if I try and load the project that has the one change saved it crashes every time.

I have now deleted everything else from inside the new version of the plugin apart from the single live.numbox item and the crash still happens - it seems to simply be the act of Live setting the value of the live.numbox that is crashing it. The only thing that might be slightly out of the ordinary is that the live.numbox is in a bpatcher maxpat which is itself contained in another maxpat because this code is reused in a number of other plugins - but these nexted bpatchers have been working fine in previous versions.

I've also found one other UI item, a live.menu, that has the same effect. But other live.menu items in the maxpat work fine and don't cause a crash. Same thing happens with this - if a test project is saved with the original default settings then it works fine, but if the selection of the menu is changed then it crashes when loaded.

I have tried this on Mac and Windows - same crash on both - so I don't think it can be some local config issue. Besides that this has all be working fine for previous releases.

Anyone got any ideas how I can work out what is going on here?

I'm just starting out with M4L, so please excuse if this is a silly problem. 

I want to control playback in Ableton via a M4L device and have this in turn be controlled with my Midi controller. So, to give an example, I press a C1 on the controller which I mapped to a "play" button on the M4L device which in turn tells Ableton to, in this example, "start playback". 

Now, the problem I keep running into is this:

When I press the Midi controller, it does trigger the M4L button - but only every other time. Or, to be more precise, it doesn't "untrigger" it when I release the controller so that it is immediately ready to fire again. However, when I press the same M4L button not via the Midi controller but directly with my mouse, the M4L device triggers every time without fail. 

I reckon there should be a way to remedy this? please help :)

I'm working on a patch that revolves around Ableton's Wavetable device, and need a way to set the modulation matrix programmatically using the js object. From the 

Live Object Model docs for WavetableDevice

, I've discovered some functions attached to the device. I've had no issues setting parameters (using 

) or setting the properties attached to the WavetableDevice.

My issue is that I can't figure out the syntax that the add_parameter_to_modulation_matrix function is expecting. The docs describe Parameter: 

 [DeviceParameter], but I am receiving syntax errors.

I've tried passing the following as arguments:

- Live object_id for the parameter to be added

or
api.call("is_parameter_modulatable", filterFreqParamId)

- param_index on the device (eg. 26 for Filter Freq 1)

api.call("is_parameter_modulatable", "parameters " + filterFreqParamIndex)

api.call("is_parameter_modulatable", filterFreqParamIndex)

- passing the object as a new LiveAPI instance

if there are any programmatic changes which affect the controls (say a number passed into a live.dial) during playback it will disable the automation that you have previously recorded in the automation lane.  (the lane would turn gray rather than red).  Is that possibly what’s happening?
